Malskaya Valley is located in the Pskov region, in the Pechora district and in the Rogovo village, in an ancient, historical place, on the territory of the state historical, architectural and natural landscape, museum-reserve "Izborsk", in an ecologically clean zone of coniferous forests, lakes and rivers.
The way we see the valley today, is the way it was about 12 thousand years ago when the last glacier passed here and left us this fantastic landscape.
This is a place of unique beauty, with outcrops of Devonian bedrock, ancient glacial landforms, hydrological features, rich and unique vegetation, rare species of plants and animals.
Rare species of lichens grow in the Izborsko-Malskaya Valley, including those of indicator significance. Rare species of the orchid family.
Among the birds there are species listed in the Red Book of Russia and the International one (golden eagle, white-tailed eagle, osprey).
The area allocated for the natural monument is huge; 1792 ha. For nature lovers, a special historical and natural route has been made, covering all the sights of the Malskaya Valley.
In the district of the Malskaya Valley, guests can visit the ancient Izborsk fortress of the early 14th century, the Truvorovo settlement, the famous Slovenian springs, the Malsky Spaso-Nativity monastery, the Serpentine beam, the Mill stream, the Kipun spring. The Pskov-Pechory Monastery built in 1473 is just 13 km away.
Famous centers of ancient architecture are located 30 km away, such as the Pskov Kremlin (XI-XII centuries), the Trinity Cathedral, the Command Chambers, the Dovmont city, the Mirozhsky Monastery of the XII century, famous for the only pre-Mongolian frescoes of the cathedral church in Russia in terms of the degree of preservation.
The views are fantastic, unforgettable. No wonder Roerich was looking for shambhala here and dedicated many of his paintings to this land.
Grandiose. Colossal. Mind-blowing. All the same, all of the words are not enough. To describe this area, only one Russian word fits. It's the word ''volya'' which means will. You stand on the edge of the steep shore of the Malskoye Lake, and it seems that you can wave your arms and fly away there, into the boundless distance.
